We are all doing well here in the Hartenburg household and enjoying fall. We've had really nice weather here in Augusta!! The kids are doing well in school. Garrett has had some very difficult trials but is seeming to be coming out of them now. It's part of the package I guess of having a child on the Autism Spectrum. Many of you have prayed for Garrett especially over the last few weeks and I greatly appreciate your prayers. Things are much more calm and relaxed at home now. Through the whole process we have come across a program to help Garrett with reading comprehension. It's called Bookshare (bookshare.org) and it allows anyone with a print disability to download electronic copies of books. The computer then reads the books to them; they can follow along, highlight, and take notes all at the same time on the computer. It's been proven to help in word decoding and reading comprehension. Garrett qualifies for the program and absolutely loves it. In fact, he just took a test on a book he read on the computer and got a 90!!! He was so proud. So needless to say, this little program was one thing that helped us come out of the trials we were going through. The Lord is good to give us just the right help when we need it!!!
We are gearing up for basketball season again. Dale is coaching the boys who will be on the same team again this year. It's fun to watch all 3 of them playing in the driveway. When they aren't playing basketball, they are throwing the football in the front yard. Garrett also acquired a new set of golf clubs, and he and Dale have been working on his swing. Check out my facebook page for a video.
Lily is a busy little kindergartener. She loves school and is reading simple books. She loves to write and draw. In fact, she told me she is going to be an author AND an illustrator. When I asked her what is an illustrator - she looked at me like I was being ridiculous, put her hands on her hips and said "It's the person who draws the pictures for the stories!!" I was just seeing if she knew what an illustrator was or did she just like the word
Well since my last post, Dale had a birthday and we are eagerly anticipating Garrett's birthday. Can you believe he is going to be 10?! He is so excited. Shortly after Garrett's birthday will be Thanksgiving and then on the heels of that will be Christmas. I will be very busy between now and then with the music at church. The holiday season always keeps those of us in the music ministry very, very busy. Aside from the music at church, I volunteer several hours a month up at school. I enjoy working in the kids classrooms.
Well, I hope this finds the rest of you doing well. I'm thankful for the Lord's mercies are new every morning - great is His faithfulness...otherwise I don't think I'd make it
