Today was a Sunday to warm a mommy-heart. Jack (now 10), met me after Relief Society bursting with news to tell me, but assured me he could not tell me until we got to the car. "I have to tell you why I feel so cool today." Thinking that someone had told him his hair looked great, I nodded and continued my hall conversations. Eventually we got to the car and he said, "shut the door, hurry". A grin was all over his skinny face and he was fairly popping with joy. "The reason I feel so cool" he began, "is that today was the first day I felt the spirit." The demeanor in the car immediately changed to one of happy curiosity as Jack tried to put into words what so many of us have tried unsuccessfully to do. The lesson in Primary had been on Christ and he said when they sang the last song in Primary, about following Christ, his body was filled with the Spirit, (he could find no other words, but he recognized it as such). He described it as happiness all over in his body. "It was so cool, mommy. I wanted to cry during the middle of that song." He went on to bear his testimony of many things and to say that when he goes on a mission, he wants to go someplace where there are a lot of people looking for the truth. I will be forever grateful to diligent teachers and leaders who create an atmosphere that a small boy seeking truth can feel the joy of testimony. The man who teaches Jack's class is a young single adult, home 3 years from his mission. I doubt he realizes the significance of his example, testimony and preparation. Great day.
