 Thursday, November 30, 2006 - Barbara Thornton
Well, I started my Christmas decorating. It's kinda like spring cleaning and christmas decorating rolled into one. I am hoping to go and buy a long shelf to put over my front window that i can attached my curtain rod to, that way I can use the shelf to display my gingerbread village that I got last year. Once I get the shelf up I can continue with the decorating. And once that is all done I can start the Holiday baking.  Hopefully I can get it done in time to send some up to Pa and even Fl.  I am hoping that I can get some tea rings made, I think I am going to try and make them smaller so that they are easier to package. I will probably make a caouple variations of chocolate chip cookies. Not sure what else I will make thou.

Well, I think Thanksgiving was a hit.  This was the first year that I cooked the majority of the meal at mom's house. Dad was all worried bout the turkey being cooked right.  I went over first thing in the morning to put the 20lb turkey in the oven and he was right there questioning me as to what i was doing and why wasn't I doing it like mom. Then when I finally got that done I headed back home so that I could make a pumpkin cheesecake.  I had two different recipes so I made both, wasn't sure which one would taste better. One was a layered cheesecake on bottom pumpkin mixed with a bit of cheesecake on top. The other was pumpkin mixed with the cheesecake thoroughly.  Headed back over to mom's shortly after noon to start making everything else. Had my bf rick make the mashed potatoes. Tried making some sweet potatoes and stuffing. And of course broccoli with cheese, corn on the cob, bread and deviled eggs. Of course since i am not used to cooking with a gas stove the Turkey was ready about 3 hours ahead of time. And of course we ended up having to wait on the bread in the bread machine.  Rick and I had bought some wine for evening so I had a glass of Pinot Grigio while doing the last few things.  By the time we ate the turkey was so tender that we could not put the whole thing on the platter. The breast meat fell off the bone as we tried to move it and of course the legs and wings were falling apart.
Well, after we ate I had only one thing to ask my dad and that was how was the turkey. He said not bad and then proceeded to ask bout a turkey sandwich for lunch the next day. I even overheard mom say that her turkey would of been dryer. So all in all it was a good night. The stuffing was a bit different than we were used to since i made it  without putting it in the turkey, but it was good. The sweet potatoes though didnt turn out that great. The first couple of bites were good but the brown sugar didnt mix all the way through.
O and the cheesecakes turned out pretty good, I liked the pumpkin cheesecake that was mixed all the way through it tasted like a velvety pumpkin pie. And the layered was pretty good too. Of course had to put some whipped cream on top after all they are pumpkin.
Of course my dad is still having turkey sandwiches, I think there is still enough left to last till the weekend.
